VP of Hardware

BEAM Authentic, Inc. is creating a new line of wearables and a dynamic platform that bridges the real world with the online world to empower self-expression, connect people around shared interests and inspire social impact.  We are a funded, stealth-mode startup.  We are seeking a VP of Hardware to own and oversee design and manufacturing of our wearable product line extension.  

VP of Hardware | San Francisco, CA

  • Lead hardware design to optimize for performance, features, budget, scale, consumer experience
  • Hire, retain, and inspire a world-class HW design, engineering and manufacturing organization
  • Manage a wide variety of resources and teams – local and remote, across many functional areas.  
  • Oversee Firmware design, coding, and integration
  • Oversee manufacturing at contract manufacturer in China.
  • Lead parts sourcing, vendor management, contract negotiation 
  • Collaborate with VP Software, App dev team, firmware team, for coordinated technology development efforts
  • Provide technical leadership for tradeoff decisions - scope/time/cost and build/buy/partner
  • Define and hit realistic schedules
  • Ship fantastic product reflecting a fanatical focus on user experience and achieving business goals
  • Manage all regulatory and country certifications required for ship
  • Develop and manage product reliability test plans

Qualifications

  • 10+ years building designing and building consumer-facing hardware that is highly performant and includes:
  • Embedded systems
  • Hi resolution screens with touch 
  • Storage
  • Wireless connectivity (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC)
  • Power systems (battery development, wireless charging, power management)
  • Sensors (accelerometer, gyro, IrDA, light sensors)
  • Video codecs (mpeg4, h.264)
  • Best in class mechanical packaging including premium finishes 
  • Experience with consumer-facing premium brands & products where every detail of user experience matters
  • Experience leading technical aspects of strategic partnership evaluations and integrations
  • Experience in at least 2 different startup environments that have scaled
  • Experience in at least 1 large, name brand, big company with best practices and scale
  • Track record of hiring and growing technical teams, retaining talent, and building a thriving culture
  • Proven ability to collaborate with business teams, hardware, product, marketing and sales
  • BSEE or MSEE with electrical engineering background 
  • Nice to have:  Experience with consumer Wearables and M&A driven Big company integration.
