Compliance Auditor | Bridgewater, NJ

Under the guidance of the Program Director and the Assistant Director, the Site Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the residential home and ensuring the safety and well-being of the individuals we support.

The Site Manager is a salaried, exempt professional position; hours for the position are flexible with the approval of the Assistant Director/Program Director, and will include evening, overnight and weekend hours, as well as some time during the typical business-week schedule.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Perform organization wide and departmental audits to investigate and monitor compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, Medicaid, current coding, billing guidelines and the HIPAA Privacy Standards (collectively, “Compliance Laws”)
  • Perform Internal Audits, reviews and services to investigate and monitor compliance with Compliance laws
  • Work closely with Billing supervisor to review coding and billing issues and concerns, ensuring adherence to all Compliance Laws and third party payer requirements
  • Act as a liaison between program management and the billing department to ensure non-billable claims are tracked and rectified in an efficient manner
  • Actively participate in Compliance Committee(s) to maintain appropriate business standards, including taking the lead in the development of internal controls to monitor adherence to applicable statutes
  • Work closely with the Compliance Director, Program Directors and Site Managers to ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Maintain awareness of Compliance laws and industry developments pertaining to reimbursement, Medicaid compliance and applicable state and federal requirements for organizations
  • Participate in Compliance investigations as needed
  • Utilize existing databases and/or create new databases to facilitate data analyses
  • Compile and summarize data and assist in preparing reports and/or analyses related to the results of audit/review observation.


  • Facilitate ongoing Compliance Training
  • Facilitate and assist with the development of ongoing Therap Training as needed for assigned members of the organization
  • Consult with Human Resources and Compliance Director regarding any performance and disciplinary issues that arise during training
  • Maintain a training and travel schedule as designated by the Compliance Director that promotes compliance of management and staff to ensure billing and documentation expectations are met

  • Ensure that environment is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion, and that all necessary equipment is available and functional

  • Operate all Bellwether equipment, appliances, and vehicles in an appropriate and safe manner

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adheres to organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines Maintain confidentiality and security of all data, adhering to all HIPAA laws and requirements
  • Ensure compliance in data collection in validating the use of approved consequences
  • Complete in-service training each year as required by the state licensing authority, referring agencies and Bellwether Standards of Performance

Background and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years’ experience working with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or mental health diagnoses, or a High School Diploma six (4) years working with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or mental health diagnoses
  • At least two (2) years of coding, audit, compliance or equivalent business experience
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated responsible administrative experience
  • CIA, CCS, CPC or CHC Certificate preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel required
  • Valid driver’s license with no provisional restrictions
  • Thorough knowledge of program systems and procedures
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to make sound decisions without appreciable direction or advance preparation
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to gain trust and maintain confidentiality
  • Able to establish and maintain effective communication and interpersonal skills to contribute to a
  • positive work environment
  • Experience or familiarity with audit construction, including Audit tool drafting, sampling, etc.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid third party billing and Internal Revenue Code requirements for non-tax-exempt organizations recommended
