Because of a little thing called the internet, a consumer’s grocery shopping path to purchase has moved from being completely in-store to starting online. Consumers look at recipes, make lists, research products, and more, before stepping foot inside of a store. With this shift to digital, food and CPG brands are spending billions of dollars in digital advertising. The only problem is that current digital advertising solutions such as search retargeting, audience targeting, and most programmatic solutions aren’t able to effectively target consumers with purchase intent. Whereas a consumer searching for “where to buy glasses in NYC” is good intent data for Warby Parker, no one is searching for “where to buy Chicken in San Francisco”. To solve this problem, Chicory activates recipes. Until today, recipes have not been fully leveraged because recipe data has always been unstructured. At Chicory, we have created a Natural Language Processing (NLP) system that understands the language and grammar of food and can tap into the influence and intent data of recipes. Using this data layer, we have created solutions specifically for food and CPG brands to find consumers who are interested in buying their product. Our solutions range from making shoppable, to standard ad-units programmatically targeted to recipes with specific ingredients. Today, Chicory runs campaigns for some of the top CPG companies in the world and is partnered with fortune 500 companies such as Time Inc, Mondelez, ConAgra as well as grocers such as Peapod.

About the opportunity

This is a high-intensity role at a startup. As employee #7 you will be working closely with the founders and in a very small team. Within Chicory you will be responsible for all aspects of the sales process from cold-calling and deck making to closing deals and signing IOs. Of course, you will also have support from the founders and the rest of the team. In addition, because our technology has many applications, you will be encouraged to come up with new and innovative solutions and products for our clients. With success, you will ultimately be managing the entire sales organization and drive Chicory to be the go-to solution for food and grocery.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create a comprehensive sales strategy to reach goals
  • Prospect for clients, pitch new business, and generate sales
  • Hit or exceed monthly/quarterly sales targets
  • Create long-lasting relationships with agencies and clients
  • (Manage team of account executives and account managers)

    Job Requirements

  • 3-7 years in digital/online media sales experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of ad-tech landscape
  • Ability to come up with a detailed sales strategy (# emails, cold calls, leads, etc)
  • Ability to maintain own work-flow and meet deadlines
  • Have a good understanding of and experience in selling digital advertising campaigns
  • Experience in account management and working to create client presentations
  • Experience negotiating, structuring, and closing complex six figure insertion orders
  • Ability to understand complex technology and convey it in an easy-to-understand manner
  • Contacts in Food/CPG is a plus
