The Role 

The role of the Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) is to generate business by providing professional financial services to customers specific to the purchasing, or refinancing of a residential real estate property.  In this sales position, MLO’s work  to continually obtain and develop and retain relationships with borrowers, realtors, builders, developers, and personal contacts.  MLO’s are responsible for upholding a high standard of customer service and professional ethics in their commitment to the customer.  MLO’s report to the Branch Manager.   

Tasks & Duties 

  • Meet with applicants to obtain information for loan applications and to answer questions about the process and program
  • Analyze applicant’s financial status, credit and property evaluations to determine feasibility of granting loans
  • Explain clearly to customers the different types of loans and credit options that are available, as well as the terms of those services
  • Obtain and compile loan applicants credit histories, corporate financial statements and other financial information.
  • Review and update credit and loan files
  • Follow the loan process with the client with high communications throughout the transaction

Required Skills 

  • Experience in loan origination
  • Satisfaction of state licensing requirements and regulatory standards must be met
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Self –starting, self-reliant, highly motivated and dependable 
  • Ability to deliver high customer service and resolve customer complaints with appropriate action in a timely manner
  • Ability to analyze financial data and comprehend market fluctuations
  • Working knowledge of lending guidelines and a thorough understanding of processes and procedures 
  • Technological savvy and comfort in learning new computer systems and programs 
  • Efficient in time management and ability to organize and prioritize task
