 AUTO PAINTER | BOULDER, CO 

THE ROLE: 

Responsible for refinishing vehicles to meet company standards of quality, and assists in the smooth flow of work through the shop.  The painter oversees paint department assistants/preppers and reports to the assistant manager.  The painter is to provide his/her own hand tools and mobile tool cabinet.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Color matches (tint) and mix paint.
  • Prepares damaged/repaired areas for painting.
  • Paints parts and vehicle as quickly as possible using proper repair refinish methods.
  • Removes rust from metal, and grease and dirt from work surface.
  • Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated.
  • Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags, and unpainted areas.
  • Maintains tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair.
  • Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, safety glasses, and hearing protection in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
  • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.
  • Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Accounts for time spent on each job each day by recording it on a labor control sheet or time card.

EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree.
  • Or one to three months related experience or training.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but noncomplex written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.
