Responsible for refinishing vehicles to meet company standards of quality, and assists in the smooth flow of work through the shop.The painter oversees paint department assistants/preppers and reports to the assistant manager.The painter is to provide his/her own hand tools and mobile tool cabinet.
Color matches (tint) and mix paint.
Prepares damaged/repaired areas for painting.
Paints parts and vehicle as quickly as possible using proper repair refinish methods.
Removes rust from metal, and grease and dirt from work surface.
Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated.
Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags, and unpainted areas.
Maintains tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair.
Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, safety glasses, and hearing protection in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.
Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.
Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
Accounts for time spent on each job each day by recording it on a labor control sheet or time card.
EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND:
High school diploma or general education degree.
Or one to three months related experience or training.
Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but noncomplex written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.
