General Import Service Technician

The Role

Functions as a skilled-level technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas, in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repair, and who has previously worked as a B Class general service technician with Kia manufacture or Import dealership


  • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and performs repair
  • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts
  • Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
  • Communicate with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
  • Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
  • Ensure that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
  • Maintain and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
  • Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc
  • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Report any safety issues immediately to management
  • Follow the Service Pricing Guides guidelines when quoting all repairs that are customer pay 

Experience & Background

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university
  • 1+  years related experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Manufacturers certification 
  • Some ASE
