Quality Assurance Specialist

The Role

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsibile for carrying out software quality assurance activities on projects through all stages of development including project planning, design, implementation and release. The Quality Assurance Specialist works with product management, developers, testers and users to ensure software quality assurance requirements are met throughout all phases of development, and assists where needed to support users and customers with issues or problems. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and execute test plans on House Advantage computer applications
  • Record and document results and compare to expected results
  • Detect software failures so that defects may be discovered and corrected
  • Generate historical analysis of test results
  • Document anomalies and issues and maintain database of software defects.
  • Examine code and execution of code in various environments; verify specific action or function of code
  • Operate and maintain test networks
  • Develop and document application test plans based on software requirements and technical specifications
  • Ensure data integrity standards.
  • Perform reviews, walkthroughs, or inspections
  • Read through various development requirements
  • Build software testing plans to challenge development specifications
  • Prepare testing reports to provide back to management and software development teams
  • Work with development teams to understand results and assist in formulating solutions
  • Work with House Advantage customers as necessary to review testing requirements and results
  • Review documentation of House Advantage projects and products for accuracy and completeness
  • Work with HA training and documentation personnel to update training materials and documentation

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science is preferred 
  • Experience testing multi-tier, web-based, and mobile applications
  • Experience writing test cases, designing tests to mitigate risks, and helping business experts define requirements
  • Experience in context-based, exploratory, or scenario testing (Agile Testing)
  • Detailed knowledge of Android and iOS Interface Guidelines (IG) a plus
  • Knowledge of and desire to work in an Agile development environment (preferably Scrum)
  • Experience collaborating on some level with programmers and business experts
  • Ability to work as part of a self-directed team, in which you determine your tasks on a daily basis in coordination with co-workers, rather than waiting for work to be assigned to you
  • Experience writing simple SQL queries and insert/update statements
  • Familiarity with SQL Server, Excel, and Microsoft Word 
  • Experience with SoapUI a plus
