Akron, OH

Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer

Imagine not simply evaluating quality, but enabling a solution.

Imagine not only making a paycheck, but making a difference.

Imagine not just having a job, but having a mission.

If you’re a software automation testing expert with an eye for detail and want to be part of something truly special, read on. Because StreamLinx, LLC, is a cloud software company dedicated to solving some of the world’s most vexing energy and environmental problems and we are searching for a Senior QA Engineer that thrives on “breaking things” to help our high performing team create greater solutions.

From our centers in suburban Cleveland, we create systems and apps that accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency and clean technologies in commercial and industrial buildings. The energy retrofit boom you’ve heard so much about? It’s real, and the technology that supports it originates right here. Our customers include energy retrofit companies, professional engineering firms, energy service companies, clean power entities, public utilities, and electronics distributors. They all share the same objective of reducing energy usage in commercial facilities. And our software speeds that adoption like none other.

Which brings us to you.  Amid our explosive growth, we’re looking for a driven and analytical groundbreaker to spearhead automation test plans and cases to ensure we are providing a best of class product to our customers.   You’ll be part of a cross-functional team and front the contribution of making our products more rock-solid and robust by developing and implementing high-quality testing processes.  You will have an immediate opportunity to learn our business needs and propose effective business approaches to ensure quality solutions to our growing product set.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Within the first four weeks
    • Learn our development stack (html/javascript/css, java/groovy, mySQL, Apache-Tomcat) and how SnapCount is designed and deployed using Jenkins, Bitbucket and Git
    • Work into a team sprint; build test cases; test new features, mid-release, complete final test regression, and maintain thorough documentation of errors found
    • Review current manual and automated testing mechanisms and identify areas that can be improved
    • Use your database knowledge to insert test data for automation testing, and to create and execute query testing within our test environments
  • Within the first 90 days:
    • Master the SnapCount software from the inside out, to gain a true understanding of what our customers require to be successful in the field.  This will ensure you create end to end user scenarios in test plans and automation
    • Create and execute test scripts, analyze software defects, produce metrics, and report results to the team
    • Design and implement a strategy to cover our applications more fully with automated testing
    • Research existing tools and select a toolset to manage the testing process
    • Effectively Communicate updates in the form of training and documentation with both technical and non-technical employees
    • Work with the Development Team to develop unit tests and integrate them into the overall test plans
  • Year One and Beyond:
    • Partner with Product Management, Development Management, and Customer Success to build Quality into the process
    • Continually evaluate processes and external tools and technologies for improvement opportunities to streamline our quality process
    • Verify that all released software meets client requirements and is of the utmost quality
    • Advance your skillset by remaining current on relevant best practices to support testing

That’s the work. Now what about the work-life?  It happens in an open and casual environment, far from fancy but perfect for our mission.  The StreamLinx locations foster creativity and innovation and reward passion and ambition.  Best of all, as a small company we deliver personal development opportunities.   We offer competitive compensation, multiple medical benefits, and free lunch every Friday.

What will it take to join our team?

Realistically, we need someone with a college degree and 5 years of prior experience in a Software QA role.  Most import is a hands-on understanding of test automation using multiple technologies and tools.  Experience testing enterprise level web-based, mobile, and API applications is a plus.  The ideal candidate has prior knowledge and experience with Selenium Web Driver and Jenkins continuous integration tool and has worked in a JAVA environment.  We need someone that is fanatical about finding critical bugs and creating scenarios to demonstrate them.  Practice thriving in an agile environment would be very helpful, but not required if you are a quick study of new tools/techniques.   You’ll be working with people, both internal and customers, so your ability to understand the problem at hand, envision the end result, and create a solution to fill the need is critical.

Ready to make a difference in your career, and in the world?  Then we want to talk!
