Senior Environment Scientist/Regulatory Specialist | Richmond, VA

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) is a seeking an experienced, highly motivated Senior Environmental Scientist/Regulatory Specialist to join our team in Richmond, Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Wetlands delineation
  • Endangered and Threatened Species studies
  • Wetlands mitigation monitoring
  • Stream restoration monitoring
  • Clean Water Act permitting, including pre-application meetings with clients, designers and agency personnel; avoidance/minimization planning, environmental assessments and impact statements; permit application preparation; and responses to agency comments
  • Resource Protection Area delineation
  • Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act studies and approvals
  • Assistance with business development
  • Participating in industry organizations
  • Proposal preparation

Background and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or a related discipline
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) and/or Professional Wetland Delineator (PWD) certification
  • Experience performing wetland delineations; preparing technical studies related to aquatic resources; conducting endangered and threatened species (ETS) surveys; assessing potential impacts to ETS; and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands and ETS issues
  • Experience coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to the Clean Water Act, VWP and VMRC permitting
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD® and GIS
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines under limited supervision
  • Knowledge of local land development practices
  • Knowledge of NEPA, FEMA or FERC regulation is a plus
  • Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors
  • Willingness to regularly travel regionally to supplement and work with staff in our Gainesville, VA Headquarters office
